I am entering my third week of college hence the lag of blog posts. I'm taking 18 credits this semester which apparently is a lot but I didn't choose my classes. My school has classes pre-selected according to your major and core classes for the first semester. I'm a Multimedia major and Communiation minor. I have two Multimedia classes, two English classes, Art History, Global Issues, and a Freshmen Seminar class. The classes are alright so far, there is a lot of reading to do but it's not terrible. I'm taking the beginner Multimedia class because I'm too scared that I'll be behind if I take the next level. But since it is beginner, I've been having to sit through the professor explain how to open a file and make a new document in Photoshop which is torture. I have been learning during the Multimedia lectures though. I can't wait to get further into my major and start my minor classes. The new Art Center opened up this year and I'm so grateful to have classes in there, which makes me one of the first people to use it. The Art Center is the home for the Multimedia Department and it is so beautiful. On Tuesdays, I basically spend my whole day there which I don't mind. There is a beautiful Mac lab in the Art Center that is going to become my favorite room. The only thing that I am struggling with is the one hour (or more) commute to school EVERYDAY. Driving on the freeway and sitting in traffic everyday is not ideal. I also don't have a good eating schedule while I'm at school. Sometimes I get Starbucks and sometimes I just don't eat at all before class. Sometimes I get a random meal at my school's cafe after classes. Sometimes all I eat in the 6 hour period I spend out of my house are snacks. I have to find something easy to make that doesn't have to be heated and will not get soggy but that still tastes good while being nutritious to take as a lunch. Until I find it, my eating schedule will continue to be weird. I also haven't made actual "friends". It's hard to make friends while being a commuter. I try to be at school at least an hour before class so I can feel like I fit in a little more. But as soon as my classes end, I have to go. I joined three clubs but they still haven't had any meetings yet. I'm doing the best I can to have a social life at school while being a shy extrovert. I do have one complaint. During high school, six minutes was more than enough time to get from a class to another but in college, ten minutes is NOT enough time to get to class. I barely arrive to my second class on time. I speed walk my heart out. And I end up sweating like a pig when I get to class. I let my professor know that I may be late sometimes if my prior class doesn't end on time but I still don't want to risk it. I just wish I could walk at a normal pace and make it to class but I can't. And my short legs don't help much with my problem. I have another complaint. WHY DO I HAVE TO BUY SO MANY BOOKS!!!!!!!???????? I rented all my books except for one and I spent about $200. $200 for one semester. $200 for rented books. This is insanity. To sum this all up, college hasn't been terrible but it also hasn't been great. I've survived two weeks so far. Good luck to me.
